2011 Homecoming will be on Saturday, October 29 when IU plays Northwestern. The university
now requires, as many alumni rudely learned last year, that activities in hospitality tents cease
at the start of the game and cannot resume during the game. This requirement and the
university’s ever increasing fees for a hospitality tent lot and the poor assortment of caterers
that are willing to pay the university’s fees for a license to serve, Delta Upsilon has decided to
try something new in 2011. DU will participate in the IU Alumni Association “Hoosier Village” at
the south east corner of the stadium. DU will have a specific area in the “Village” with reserved
table seating. When you arrive at the “Village” reception area, identify yourself as a participant
from DU; the greeter will record your presence, give you a wrist band, and point you toward
the DU assembly area. Your wrist band entitles you to enjoy the buffet lunch as a guest of
DU served near the DU seating area. There will be a cash bar nearby and restroom facilities.
Chapter leaders and other undergraduate members will be in the DU area to mix and mingle
with the alumni. Be sure to sign the attendance roster at the DU reception table. The “Hoosier
Village” will open at 9 am and food service will be discontinued at 11:30, giving you time to get
to your seats to cheer for the IU team. An RSVP sent to rrkovener@aol.com will be helpful for
planning but is not required—come regardless.
Following the game, we are sure you will want to see the renovated chapter house. There will
be a bar in the recreation room of the chapter house. This facility will be managed in accord
with university rules for alcohol service in a fraternity house and alumni are urged to not allow
any alcoholic beverages in unauthorized areas or in the possession of underage people.
Conformity with rules will be critical to avoid chapter penalties and to preserve the opportunity to
have celebrations of this type at the chapter house in the future. Light food will also be available
at the house during this socialization period. If you do not sign the attendance roster at the tent,
record your presence at the chapter house.
Members who would like to extend the party with dinner around 7pm may indicate that interest
when they RSVP. If at least 30 indicate an interest by September 15, an effort to make these
arrangements will be made.
The team is going to “Defend the Rock; advance expectations for the team are high. Progress
on widening the by-pass near the stadium is progressing slowly but reasonable access is
expected to be available. There are lots of good reasons to take this opportunity to see brothers
and friends, meet undergraduate members, admire the smashing redo of the chapter house,
and enjoy Bloomington’s fall beauty.
